PET Conference on Democratization of Energy in the Western Balkans

The Platform for Energy Transition (PET) is proud to host the conference "Strengthening Citizens' Energy – Opportunity for More Efficient Energy Transition", aimed at exploring the role of citizens in accelerating energy democratization in the Western Balkans. This significant event will take place on Friday, 25 October 2024 in the vibrant city of Niš, Serbia.

Event Highlights

This conference will delve into the critical role that citizens play in driving local energy transitions. Experts will share insights on how communities can take charge of their energy needs and contribute to a more sustainable future. The conference will showcase experiences from Slovenia, the European Union, and the Western Balkans, offering practical examples and expert perspectives on how citizen energy projects can lead to a more democratic energy system.

Key Speakers and Discussions

  • Mr. Rajko Leban, Director of the Goriška Local Energy Agency (GOLEA), Slovenia, will open the event with a keynote address highlighting Slovenia's successful citizens’ energy initiatives and the lessons learned from their implementation.

  • Prof. Dr. Predrag Cvetković, Co-founder of PET and a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, will present the latest PET study on the potential of citizens' energy to accelerate the energy transition in Serbia.

  • A panel discussion featuring prominent energy experts will examine what can be done differently to facilitate local citizens' energy projects and democratize energy in both EU and non-EU countries. Panelists include:

    • Mr. Dragomir Tzanev, Executive Director of Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect and representative of Municipal Energy Efficiency Network EcoEnergy, Bulgaria

    • Damir Juričić, President of the Northern Adriatic Energy Community, Croatia

    • Mr. Aleksandar Macura, Co-founder and Programme Director, RES Foundation, Serbia

    • Ms. Iva Đinđić Ćosić, Energy Law and Gender Expert, Serbia

Moderators for the panel will be Mr. Bojan Gajić and Ms. Tanja Popovicki from the PET (Platform for Energy Transition) Serbia.
